Group(s) Info

Middle School Cohort/Group

For our co-ed Middle School Athletes we use a cohort structure meaning we try to have all of the athletes begin and end together.

This allows the coaches to dial in what the group needs as a whole, there will usually be some athletes brand new to weight lifting and some returning from a previous group.

Groups are capped at 12 or less athletes to maintain safety and effective coaching

Our main goals for the group as it relates to weight lifting are:

1. To teach athletes good (safe) technique

2. Build a lifelong love for fitness and training

3. Prepare athletes for what they might see or do in a high school weight room

Structure of each session:

-Warm-up

-Speed or Agility & Power training (depending on the day) involving exercises, drills and competitions

-Total body strength training (calisthenics, dumbbells, maybe barbells if a particular athlete is ready)

-Conditioning/Capacity training if there is time, this usually takes the form of a game or competition

The goal of each session is to deliver you a sweaty, tired human being who is excited to come back again and needs some protein

FAQ

My athlete is new how do I get started?

Give us a call or shoot us a text! We will schedule a time for your athlete(s) to come in to try out a session and make sure they love it before signing-up.

Phone: (720)295-7598

Website: https://mountainspeedandstrength.com/ (Click "Talk to a Trainer")

This does not necessarily mean that they will be able to join the group permanently if all the spots are taken, but if nothing else we can at least get you in for a trial session and on the contact list for when we open up the next round.

Is heavy weightlifting safe for new lifters?

Nope. That's why we start with building a foundation of good technique, bodyweight movements and light dumbbells/kettlebells once athletes begin to understand how their body moves we add weight slowly and constantly recheck form.

Do we occasionally throw a dog a bone to keep athletes excited, if they are hung up with a particular movement? Absolutely, but it is always done with safety in mind.

What if we miss a session or a week?

We understand life and sickness happen that's why we offer Bonus/Make-up sessions at no additional cost on Fridays to both groups, please take advantage of these as often at your schedule allows.

Do Groups Fill-up?

Yep, as spots are limited to 12 or less per group we do fill up especially quickly in the winter and summer seasons

How do you make sure new athletes are training light enough and advanced athletes are training hard enough?

This is a big reason why we run the cohort structure, it allows our coaches really get to know your athlete and figure out how to best push them. Our coaches are taught to analyze form, exertion and conversations to dial in on what each athlete needs.
